The quarterly luncheon of the Assembly of Catholic Professionals was held at Fort Scratchley on Thursday 29 October.

The Assembly welcomed David Crofts of Strategy Hunter as speaker, to share the plans for the Cathedral Precinct in Maitland.

Stage 1 of the redevelopment project has begun, and will commemorate the 170th anniversary of the chapel and the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the diocese.

St John the Baptist Chapel and Bishop’s House will be restored to become an integral part of the planned precinct as ‘an historical and cultural place of worship, celebration, social gathering and pilgrimage over the coming years’.

David Crofts demonstrated his passion for the vision of the precinct, and shared how the plans have been developed to closely link with Maitland Council to become ‘another pearl in the chain along High St’.

“This is an important building in the history of the diocese, the city of Maitland and the life of the Maitland community. We aim to bring this area back to life and make it once again a community asset and a site of pilgrimage.”
