People begin their Catholic journey

On Sunday 22 February, the diocesan RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) community held a celebration which included the Rite of Election of Catechumens and Presentation of Candidates.

Around 150 people from 10 parishes attended the celebration at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Hamilton.

There were 20 Catechumens from 7 parishes who were presented to Bishop Bill and who signed the "Book of the Elect" from their parish. Most of these were accompanied by their sponsor, family members and their parish priest or parish representative. A Catechumen is one who has never been baptised, who is walking the faith journey of RCIA and who will receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist the following Easter.

There were 9 Candidates from 5 parishes also presented to Bishop Bill. A Candidate is one who has already been baptised in a Christian Faith and who is walking the RCIA journey preparing for reception of the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist in our Catholic Faith at Easter. These Candidates were also accompanied by their sponsor, family and parish priest or parish representative.

The Rite of Election was inspirational and all those who attended celebrated wonderful Liturgy, with exceptionally beautiful singing and much joy. Later, the RCIA community shared a wonderful afternoon tea and chat with Bishop Bill.
