DARA needs volunteers

Thanks in no small part to the help of volunteers, the Development and Relief Agency (DARA) is responsible for two key outreach services – DARA's Van and the Refugee Hub (formerly the Penola House & Refugee Service).

Through these services DARA provides homeless people or those in difficult circumstances with practical assistance in response to their immediate daily needs, an opportunity to socialise with others and thereby reduce the effects of loneliness and isolation, an environment that helps restore and build self-worth, and access to educational and life skills that help such people with day-to-day issues and also with self-development.

This year has seen DARA's Van extend its reach beyond Saturday afternoons at Islington Park to providing food to those in need in other areas such as Anna Bay, Raymond Terrace and Maitland.

Such is the demand for DARA’s outreach services that more volunteers are needed to help with its work in Raymond Terrace and Maitland.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact our Van Co-ordinator Baden Ellis who manages the logistics of DARA's Van including the supply of food as well as co-ordinating the activities of volunteer teams.
