Amongst a flurry of media activity, one of DARA’s key services – DARA’s Van – began as principal partner of Orange Sky Australia in the Newcastle and Hunter regions. DARA’s Van will continue to provide hospitality and friendship to the community – the homeless, socially isolated, financially stressed and all who are vulnerable. Working in partnership with Orange Sky, the van will offer free mobile washing and drying as well as hospitality and support for people doing it tough across Newcastle and surrounding areas. DARA’s Van and the Orange Sky laundry van will service 12 shifts across six days, extending existing services currently available in Islington Park from 5pm each Saturday.
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean from the Fort Scratchley function centre, Vice Chancellor Administration, Sean Scanlon, spoke of DARA’s commitment to continue its support of our community:
“We’re excited to extend the reach of our support, and by partnering with a complementary service like Orange Sky, we can now offer integrated laundry and hospitality services to some of our community’s most vulnerable.
“With a range of services already available in the region, we see it as essential that we lead the way in co-ordinating these to make it as easy as possible for people to connect, wherever they are located.’’
