Pope Francis appoints new Bishop of Toowoomba, Australian Catholic Bishops Conference names new general secretary

Bishop Ken Howell has been appointed as the seventh Bishop of Toowoomba, he succeeds Bishop Robert McGuckin, who has led the Diocese of Toowoomba since 2012.

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference has also named a new general secretary. Fr Chris de Souza will take on the new role in August.

On Wednesday night, members of our faith community gathered in Sacred Heart Cathedral to farewell Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. The concelebrated mass was an opportunity to mourn, commemorate and celebrate his eternal life.

A Requiem Mass for the Repose of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will also be hosted in St Peter’s Square tonight from 7.30pm AEDT. It will be presided over by Pope Francis. You can watch a livestream of this on the Vatican News Facebook page, website (https://www.vaticannews.va/en.html) or YouTube (www.youtube.com/vaticannews). You'll also be able to view it on the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference page. The livestream will be available from 6.40pm.
