Grief Awareness Morning Tea

Each August, the NALAG Centre for Loss & Grief encourages communities/organisations to come together to remember loved ones and other losses that we, as a community or individually, have faced, recently or in the past. This year’s theme is “Grief Anniversaries and Memories - acknowledging grief, promoting resilience”.

Seasons for Growth hosted a morning tea for Grief Awareness on 9 August. Diocesan staff gathered and shared food and memories and reflected on how to approach anniversaries of loved ones.

For those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, it can be tough not knowing what to do or how to handle death anniversaries, birthdays, holidays and other special days. Most don’t know what to expect when the day starts creeping up. Will this day bring back a memory of remembering the loved one warmly? Will it be a day of remembering the pain of loss? Can anniversaries and holidays ever feel the same again?

The Seasons for Growth team shared resources on the process of grief, and encouraged all to take time to think about how we could look after ourselves when anniversaries occur and allow others to care for us also.
