GALLERY: Celebrating Deacon Camillus

It was a joyful moment on Saturday 21 November as Camillus Nwahia was ordained Deacon for the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

Camillus was surrounded by friends, many clergy and members of his community on this day of commitment and celebration.

Fr Gerard Mackie presented Camillus to the Bishop and was asked, “Do you know him to be worthy?” Fr Gerard answered yes, and Camillus was chosen for ordination.

After the laying on of hands, Camillus was presented with the Book of the Gospels:

Receive the Gospel of Christ, whose herald you have become.
Believe what you read,
teach what you believe,
and practise what you teach.

Bishop Bill shared that being part of ordinations was one of the best things about being Bishop.

The offertory procession involved joyful dancing up the aisle with music to celebrate Camillus’ African heritage.

Everyone gathered in the Victor Peters Suite for food − and more dancing − after the ordination.
