Sisters throw open the doors to their home

Have you ever wondered what’s inside the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Singleton?  Well, wonder no more.  To celebrate 140 years of the Sisters of Mercy in Singleton, the Sisters are throwing open the doors to their home in the form of an Open Day on Sunday, 23 August 2015 between 10am and 3pm.

“Celebrating 140 years in Singleton is a very important event for the Sisters of Mercy and sharing the beauty of the Convent is a great way to include the wider community”, said Cynthia Mulholland, Sacred Spaces Events and Marketing Co-ordinator.

“The day will offer an opportunity to wander through the convent and grounds with tour guides throughout the convent sharing the stories and bringing the history alive” continued Mrs Mulholland.

The Sisters of Mercy will be providing free tea, coffee and home-made scones.  The Lions Club will be hosting a barbecue, with lunch being available for a small fee.

“We are very fortunate to have representatives from the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music providing a great ambience of live music throughout the day”, said Mrs Mulholland.

The Open Hospitality Day is a great opportunity for all members of the community to come along and enjoy one of Singleton’s iconic and historical buildings.

“There is much to see and enjoy throughout the convent and one of the highlights of any visit to the Convent is to experience the glorious Chapel”, said Mrs Mulholland.

“This is a great opportunity and we’re very grateful to the Sisters for sharing their home with us.  I would encourage everyone to come along and participate in this special occasion”, said Mrs Mulholland.

The Convent is located at 30 Queen Street, Singleton and the Open Hospitality Day will take place between 10am and 3pm on Sunday, 23 August 2015.  Everyone is welcome.
