NSWCPS Rugby

A talented group of 18 Boys represented the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese at the NSW Catholic Primary School Rugby Championships at Forbes. This event is one of the few that has both Polding and Mackillop regions trialling together.

The boys faced teams from Armidale, Wilcannia Forbes, Bathurst and Broken Bay Dioceses. All boys trialled well with three boys making the possible and probable team. Chayce Afa from St Mary's Warners Bay, Oliver Moran from St Joseph's Merewether and Brodie Belcher from St Patrick's Wallsend

Selected in the Polding side to represent at the NSWPSSA carnival were Brodie and Oliver.

Brodie our lock, was strong all day scoring many tries and making many metres especially when running from the back of the scrum.  He was selected as the Polding breakaway due to his speed and tackling skills.  Brodie was also our forwards captain and was instrumental in motivating the boys in team talks before and after games.

Oliver played second row and his strength was his ability to pick and drive forward. His low running body height was noted by the selectors and he was selected as the Polding 2nd rower.

The whole team had a strong performance and should be congratulated on their sportsmanship throughout the event.
