Principal goes full circle

St Joseph’s Primary School, Gloucester, has appointed Amy Maslen as principal following Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Bishop Bill’s acceptance of the unanimous recommendation of the interview panel.

Ms Maslen has since 2017 held the positions of literacy and numeracy action plan teacher, learning support teacher, and executive release teacher at St Joseph’s, and commenced as principal in January 2020.

Previously the principal and religious education co-ordinator at Sacred Heart, Coolah, in the Diocese of Bathurst for four years, Ms Maslen is a practising Catholic and will continue to work with Fr Greg and Fr Victor to deepen ties between parish and school.

“I was born and raised in Gloucester and attended the little school at Wards River, which is closed now,” said Ms Maslen. “But my brothers and sister went to St Joey’s.”

Ms Maslen says she is keen to promote the school in the community.

St Joseph’s is a similar size to Coolah, so I understand the challenges families are facing.”

Her qualifications include Graduate Certificate in Theology, Master of Educational Studies with Merit (ACU), and Bachelor of Teaching/Arts with Honours.

Maitland-Newcastle Director of Schools, Gerard Mowbray, congratulated Ms Maslen on her appointment and wished her well as she takes up her role.
