Tripping the light fantastic

Lights! Camera! Action! Another week of Dancing with The Stars.

St John the Baptist Primary School, Maitland, staged its annual school production recently – a performance based on the reality television show Dancing with The Stars.

Year 6 students worked closely with ASPIRE Artistic Director, Anna Kerrigan to develop a script and a theme for the performance. Students brainstormed the different characteristics of St John staff members to create their cast for the show.

An audition process for Year 6 students offered the opportunity to score a role as a host, a professional dancer, a celebrity dancer, a judge or an audience member.

From the development of the script, each year group was given a genre they would perform live on the night.

At the start of Term 4, Miss Toscano taught each grade their routine, which they then needed to continue rehearsing and perfect for show night.

The genres included the cha-cha, jazz, musical theatre, disco, swing, contemporary, hip-hop or jive.

With a fully booked-out venue, there were many laughs, much entertainment, and dancing in the aisles.

Each student performed phenomenally, and it was once again a very energetic, exciting and entertaining St John the Baptist production.
