St Pius X Adamstown Strike 4 Climate Change

Students from St Pius X High School, Adamstown hosted a school Strike 4 Climate to raise awareness for global warming and advocate for change.

In an endeavour to save our common home, students gathered on the bottom field, forming the outline of Australia.

Organised by the schools’ Eco Group, the entire protest was student-driven.

The school strike coincided with the national strike for climate change, which aims to raise awareness of the consequences of our actions and to make demands to the government, including:

  • No new coal, oil and gas projects, including the Adani mine
  • 100% renewable energy generation and exports by 2030
  • Fund a just transition and job creation for all fossil-fuel workers and communities.

Students from St Pius X stood in unison to support these demands, in order to bring about change of policies and to empower others to also support the protection of our planet.

Under the guidance of Mr Brennan, a number of Year 9 and 10 students created a powerful banner to broadcast at the Climate Strike. These students worked fiercely to complete the banner, with the slogan ‘Do you like the look of our future?’ bringing to light the current state of the earth.

The school Strike 4 Climate at St Pius X presented an impressive image towards the community, supporting action for change.

Many thanks go to Mrs Eccleston, who helped us organise the event and to Mr Brennan who helped the students who made the banner.

Ultimately, the Climate Strike was a success, and let us hope that next year, a global climate strike will not be necessary to save our climate.
