Campdraft success for St Joseph’s Merriwa students

Following on from the St Joseph’s Primary School, Merriwa Junior Campdraft and Fete at the end of last term, Ben Patterson (Year 5) and Isla Moore (Kindergarten) attended the Glowalman Junior Championships at Nabiac, Wingham and Gloucester.

Ben and his mare, Jens Revelle, performed brilliantly and achieved some great results.

Ben placed in all three campdrafts and in each of his sporting events against some really tough competitors, winning the under 8 and 11 years Age Champion at all three venues.

At the final presentation, Ben won Champion Bend Bar Aft, Champion Flag Race, Reserve Champion Barrel Race and Reserve Champion Bonfield Bounce.

The real highlight was winning the Judith "Topsey" Dixson Perpetual Shield for the overall Australian Stock Horse point score. Ben described this achievement as “one of the best I have ever had”.

Isla had her first experience ‘off the lead’, riding in the under 8’s sporting events over the three days. She came home with three ribbons, which was a fantastic effort for her maiden runs.

Isla described her first campdraft experience as “scary, but exciting and I cannot wait to have another go”.

The St Joseph’s Merriwa community are very proud of our student’s achievements.
