Alpacas with Maracas at St John Vianney Morisset

Students from Kindergarten to Year 2 from St John Vianney Primary School, Morisset visited their local library to participate in the annual Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) National Simultaneous Storytime.

Each year, a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author is chosen to be read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, bookshops and more across Australia at the exact same time as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.

The event aims to be a colourful and fun event that promotes the value of reading and literacy and shows just how fun reading books can be.

This year, students across the country read Alpacas with Maracas, written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove. The book follows the story of two alpacas who are best friends, Macca and Al. When the pair learn about a talent contest, they enter together to put on a performance to remember and learn some valuable lessons along the way.

The staff from the library read the book to the students and also set up a number of activities for them to participate in, including Picture Bingo.

Students also had the opportunity to borrow a book from the library and have a go at using the self-loan station.
