Mental Health is on the map for St Mary’s Scone

Staff from St Mary’s Primary School, Scone, were recently accredited as Youth Mental Health First Aiders – as a result of 22 staff members completing the 14-hour course over three nights at the school.

Run by Mental Health First Aid Australia, the course teaches participants how to assist someone - who is experiencing or developing a mental health problem or is in a mental health crisis - until that person can receive appropriate professional help.

The school staff members were supported by Where There’s a Will Foundation which funded the training.

“I am so proud of our dedicated and hardworking members of staff who are committed to making a difference to the lives of the children in our community,” said Kim Wilson, Principal at St Mary’s.

“The course helped us understand the common mental health issues and how to help people who are suffering from them. It was so informative and useful for us as teachers.

“I strongly encourage everyone to take part in this training – it is so unbelievably worthwhile for every one of us.”
