GALLERY: Diocesan Netball Gala Day 2017

30 courts were in action on Tuesday 5 September as 1700 students from schools across the diocese gathered for the annual Diocesan Netball Gala Day.

The Gala Day has been running for over 10 years and this year was the biggest it has ever been with 176 teams competing from around the diocese.

Over 29 primary schools participated in the tournament with the assistance of 100 umpires from at least five of our Catholic high schools.

10 teams played in the Open Girls A division with the final winners being the St Joseph’s Primary School, Taree gold team who were undefeated.

The rest of the competitions, including boys and girls from Year 3 to Year 6, played their games with exemplary sportsmanship with fun being the objective ahead of the score.

The students had a fantastic day playing with and against their friends and making new friends from around the diocese and the netball skills improved as the day went on.

For many of our students, this is their only experience of netball and it is a day that they look forward to each year.

Each of the 176 teams came with a volunteer from their school so there was also great support from the parent community and from teaching staff who took time out to coach and organise their teams.

We had a great time with the netball day and look forward to doing it all over again next year!
