St Michael’s make the state finals

On Wednesday 28 June the rugby team from St Michael’s Primary School, Nelson Bay, played in the Primary Schools Rugby 7s State Finals at The King’s School, Parramatta.

The day saw 20 teams and a couple of hundred talented and happy rugby players play in 2 divisions.

The St Michael’s team reached this level as they were runners up in the competition in the Newcastle Hunter region.

Even though it was wet and cold the team won the first three preliminary matches ensuring them a spot in the Semi Finals, again St Michael’s powered through the semis winning 15 to 5.

The team played Terrigal Public School in the grand final but unfortunately could not maintain their winning streak going down 30 to 10.

The boys played with great tenacity and sportsmanship throughout the whole day and they should be very proud of themselves.

The school made the trip down to Parramatta on a bus kindly donated by Fingal Bay Sports Club.

It is wonderful to see the support of the local community behind our local students.
