KINDY STARTERS 2017: NELSON BAY

On Tuesday 31 January, a very happy group of parents and kindergarten students joined the school community at St Michael’s Primary School, Nelson Bay.

The Year 6 students “mighty mates” played host to their new Kindergarten buddies “mini mates” and it was hard to tell who was more excited. Breaking the ice with Play Doh, Lego and games, it wasn’t long before laughter echoed through the rooms.

There was a great vibe in the air between the two classes, which this year will combine in St Michael’s first collaborative learning classroom. The new plan will see the two classes of Kinders combined to encourage a more engaging learning environment.

Primary Coordinator, Jess Nunan said that she was looking forward to igniting a passion and excitement for learning from the students’ first year of schooling.

“One benefit of team teaching is there will be more flexibility with grouping which will enable us to differentiate learning activities depending on student needs and interests,” said Jess.

“Our aim is to provide a variety of ways to reach the intended outcome; this way every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential".

Students of St Michael’s are set for an exciting 2017!
