Celebrating Book Week at St Benedict's

Drivers along Main Road at Edgeworth were treated to a colourful display of characters last Friday morning as the children of St Benedict's Primary arrived at school to celebrate Book Week.

The theme for Book Week in 2015, which is officially celebrated this week, is "Books Light Up Our World" and the celebrations certainly lit up Edgeworth as children arrived as a wide array of characters from Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz to Harry Potter and Hermione, princesses, witches, superheroes, Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland, the Pink Panther and around forty Minions representing kindergarten!

Each class was allocated a colour and asked to come as a character who represented that hue in some way. This certainly ensured a sea of colour in the hall!

The staff of St Benedict's happily got into the spirit of the day and made it all the more enjoyable for the children.

Teacher Librarian, Sue Evans, said it was a wonderful day.

"It was the highlight of the year for me, and from the comments I heard from the children, they had a great day as well," Mrs Evans said.

The school hall was overflowing as parents, grandparents and carers enjoyed the parade.

The children also had the opportunity to purchase books on the day. This was a great success and will enable the library to improve its facilities and purchase new resources. The children will continue to enjoy reading a wide variety of books that will hopefully light up their world!
