Diocesan Touch Teams Excel at Polding Selections

Recently, 24 students from the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle headed to Mudgee for the NSW Polding Touch Selections.

The diocesan girl’s team was outstanding, undefeated in the competition and with 6 girls making it to the possibles/probables side. Tara Helly was unlucky not to be selected, narrowly missing a spot on the wing. A respectable 5 girls made the team - Tarsha Wellings , Amber Morgan, Heidi Richards, Matilda Jones and Grace Hewitt.

The team was buoyed by the experience of last year's campaigners, Matilda Jones and Heidi Richards, both from St James’ Muswellbrook and Tarsha Wellings from St Michael’s Nelson Bay, who were able to steer the team around the field. The team also greatly benefited by the injection of pace from Amber Morgan of St James Muswellbrook and Grace Hewitt of St Michael’s Nelson bay.

The boys side also played very well, getting 6 into the possibles/probables. Logan Aoake, Macauley Aoake and Molou Taufaao, all from St Columban's Mayfield, were selected in the Polding team. Congratulations to these students.
