Upper Hunter Catholic Schools tour Europe

Students, parents, grand-parents and teachers from St Catherine’s Catholic College Singleton and St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen participated in the first combined Upper Hunter Catholic Schools visit to Europe this year.

Flying into Rome in time for the Good Friday Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum with Pope Francis, the group gradually made their way north stopping along the way at Pompei, Assisi, Florence, Bologna, Padova, Venice, Verona, Milan and Brescia. Crossing into Switzerland, the tour party stopped at Lucerne and caught the fast train to Paris from Geneva, continuing north towards the battlefields of the Western Front, visiting Ieper, Brugge, Fromelles, Vimy, Bullecourt and Villers-Bretonneux.

Senior students Katelin Kelly and Joseph O’Brien from St Catherine’s and Louise Young and Sam Middleton from St Joseph’s ably represented both colleges by laying wreaths as members of the official parties involved in the Last Post Ceremony on 21 April at the Menin Gate, and the Dawn Service at Villers- Bretonneux on 25 April.
