On Friday 5 June, Rosemarie Milsom wrote an opinion piece in the Newcastle Herald titled ‘The Ethics of Education’. Rosemarie made a number of points but ended her piece by stating that it “only seems right” that faith groups respect her decision to send her daughter to ethics classes and opt out of special religious education (SRE).
Could you imagine a school in Australia that did not have regularly scheduled sport for young students? A multitude of sporting competitions and activities abound in the wider community, and it appears that learning about and engaging in sport is highly valued in the education system.
Seven young people have taken up the opportunity of a ‘traineeship’ in the work of the church. This week these participants in the Pastoral Placement Program went out into ministries such a religious education, family services and port chaplaincy.
