In Australia, one woman is murdered each week by her current or former partner. This statistic can be changed by confronting the factors that predict high levels of violence against women.
On the feast of Pentecost this weekend, a special event took place in Belmont. It was the Mass of Dedication of St Francis Xavier’s Church, and the Inauguration of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Around 500 people came to the dedication, including representatives from the Anglican and Uniting Churches.
Last night the Vocations Director (Archdiocese of Brisbane), mountaineer, army chaplain and adventurer, Fr Morgan Batt, joined us for ‘Pints With A Purpose’ at the Northern Star Hotel.
On the first Monday night of each month Pints with a Purpose hosts talks by a variety of speakers to encourage thoughtful discussions and a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith. The venue is The Northern Star Hotel, Hamilton.
‘Be, Grow, Show’ was held last weekend at St Joseph’s Conference Centre, Toronto. Thirty young people joined together for prayer, praise and worship, talks and outreach.
Women of the diocese, under the auspices of the Council for Australian Catholic Women (Maitland-Newcastle contact group) met for Mass, morning tea and a panel of local speakers on Sunday 6 March, to celebrate International Women’s Day.
